Returning to Vancouver in mid October came with a sense of relief that was hard to ignore. After being away for a long stretch of time, it felt genuinely good to be home again. Settling back into daily life with Sarah and Betty brought an immediate sense of grounding. Familiar streets, routines, and quiet evenings carried more weight than they might have before. Being away had made home feel sharper, clearer, and more appreciated.

The weeks that followed were calm but not empty. Life resumed at a steady pace, shaped by work, small plans, and time spent reconnecting with the city. October brought another remarkable reminder of how unpredictable and special Vancouver can be. A particularly active aurora season delivered another northern lights display, colour stretching faintly but unmistakably across the night sky. Seeing it again from the city felt rare and grounding, a shared moment quietly unfolding above familiar places.

Early November brought a short but meaningful departure south. We headed to Portland to see Modest Mouse at Revolution Hall, a venue that suited the band perfectly. The neighbourhoods around the venue were lined with trees, their leaves thinning as autumn set in, streets feeling calm and lived in. After the show, we waited outside and ended up chatting with Isaac Brock. What followed was unplanned and genuine, conversation, laughter, and even a few hugs before the night wound down. It was one of those moments that stays with you long after the music fades.

Back in Vancouver, December arrived with its own kind of energy. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour passing through the city shifted the atmosphere almost overnight. Posters, outfits, friendship bracelets, and white marquee signs with glowing bulbs appeared everywhere. Storefronts, streets, and public spaces all leaned into the moment. Even without attending a show, it felt impossible not to be caught up in it.

December arrived with a sense of closure. Looking back, 2024 revealed itself as a year defined not by constant movement, but by contrast. Long stretches away gave way to the comfort of returning. Travel still mattered, but home held equal weight. It felt like a closing chapter, one that gently set the stage for what would come next, with 2025 waiting just ahead.
