The year began with settling into a new apartment and a different phase of life. A new partner, a new space, and the process of setting up a home shaped the early months. Furniture was bought gradually, routines formed, and daily life became more structured. The previous few years had changed priorities, and this year felt focused on building something steady and functional rather than constantly moving.
Vancouver remained the centre of life. Work continued, and time was mostly local. Days were spent getting on with things, adjusting to a shared space, and settling into a rhythm that felt sustainable. The city provided familiarity and consistency.
March brought a change of pace. FanExpo offered a break from routine, and meeting Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson from Clerks was a standout moment. Later that month, travel east led to Toronto and Niagara Falls. Time in Toronto offered contrast to the west coast, while Niagara Falls delivered a reminder of scale and force that never quite translates through photographs.
Live music returned in March. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis performed at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, a powerful and restrained show that lingered long after it ended. Shortly after, work travel took me to San Francisco. The trip was brief and practical, but still allowed moments to take in the city between commitments.
June brought warmer weather and another trip inland. Kelowna provided a familiar change of scenery, dry air, vineyards, and open landscapes breaking up time on the coast. Later that month, another road trip followed through Seattle and Portland. Hiring a car allowed more freedom to explore, including Multnomah Falls and surrounding areas. Time was spent moving through the cities at an unhurried pace.
July marked a significant change at home. A kitten named Betty joined the household, quickly becoming part of daily life. Time at home increased naturally, routines adjusted, and the focus shifted inward again.
August included a Vancouver Canadians baseball game, an easy summer highlight that fit neatly into the season. October brought a work trip to Banff, returning once again to the mountains and cooler air.
November was shaped by live events. Steve-O performed in New Westminster, followed later in the month by seeing Simple Plan and The Offspring live. December closed the year with a major snowstorm in Vancouver, slowing the city and drawing the year to a quiet end.
2022 was not defined by constant travel, but by stability and balance. Life centred on home, work, and selective trips that complemented rather than disrupted daily routines. It was a year of building, adjusting, and settling into a pace that felt sustainable.
